Dr. Arun Agrawal to Speak at World Wildlife Fund

Washington, D.C. (Vocus) September 25, 2009 -

Dr. Arun Agrawal, Professor and Associate Dean for Research of Natural Resources & Environment at the University of Michigan, will speak on "Community, Carbon and Livelihoods of Forest Commons - Win-Win vs. Tradeoffs Relationships" at World Wildlife Fund (WWF) today, Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 4:30 p.m. The lecture is part of the Kathryn Fuller Science for Nature Seminar series, which brings distinguished scientists from a variety of fields to Washington, D.C. to present cutting edge research of central importance to international conservation.

Forest commons - forests used in common by a large number of diverse users - comprise nearly 18% of global forest area and make crucial contributions to livelihoods, carbon sequestration, and biodiversity conservation, in addition to many other local and global ecosystem services. The contribution of forest commons to local livelihoods far exceeds their territorial extent--more than a billion people are estimated to depend at least partially on different kinds of benefits drawn from forest commons.

Using original data for more than 100 forest commons from ten different countries, Dr. Agrawal will examine the relationship between carbon sequestration and the contributions of forests to livelihoods. His analysis suggests that larger patch size of community forests, and greater autonomy to communities in managing are positively associated with win-win carbon and livelihood outcomes on community forests. The findings of the study provide some guidance for organizations interested in improving carbon sequestration and livelihood outcomes at the same time in relation to community forests.

Dr. Agrawal's research and teaching emphasizes the politics of international development, institutional change and environmental conservation. He has written extensively on indigenous knowledge, community-based conservation, common property, population and resources, and environmental identities. Dr. Agrawal's recent interests include the decentralization of environmental policy and the emergence of the environment as a subject of human concern. He has focused on South Asia, although recent projects include other developing countries in Africa and Latin America.

Dr. Agrawal has been awarded the Arthur Greer Memorial Research Prize. He has a Ph.D. in Political Science from Duke University, a M.A. in Political Science from Duke University, a M.B.A. in Development Administration and Public Policy from Indian Institute of Management, and a B.A. in History from Delhi University.

From Weekend Playground to Retirement Destination, Gun Barrel City, Texas, Offers Something for Everyone

Gun Barrel City, Texas (PRWEB) May 27, 2011

Memorial Weekend kicks off the season in Gun Barrel City, Texas, a fast-growing community that thrives on the summer months when thousands visit Cedar Creek Lake. The town is located just 50 miles south and east of Dallas, but Gun Barrel City offers a relaxed, country pace that appeals to visitors, permanent residents, and city weekenders alike.

With a name as distinctive as its lakefront lifestyle, Gun Barrel City has a lot going for it, including steady growth. The population increased more than 20 percent between the 2000 and 2010 Census, with current population figures at more than 6,500 residents. Over weekends in the summer, that population swells to as much as ten times that number around the lake, as "the weekenders" descend upon their lake homes.

To keep up with community needs, the city has adopted a pro-business attitude. Gun Barrel City is one of just a handful of towns in Texas without ad valorem taxes. The city also has an Economic Development Corporation that offers incentives to businesses interested in locating in the community.

We are actively pursuing retail businesses, restaurants, entertainment venues, and of course agriculture or light manufacturing that bring jobs and services, says Steve Webster, president of the EDC.

Currently the city is working on anchor tenants for its Heritage Cove development, which already includes a new La Quinta Inn, an 8-screen movie theatre, the popular Lake Jackson Seafood Restaurant, a retail strip, and plans for a Riverwalk-style pedestrian shopping and entertainment complex. Land grants, loans, loan guarantees and other incentives are available and are helping position Gun Barrel City as a place to do business.

According to Webster, the population growth in Gun Barrel City is fueled by two trends: families in search of small towns and exceptional schools, and a growing retirement population drawn to the lake and its affordable lifestyle. The combination of new residents and the large weekend population has created a vibrant local economy.

The Lifestyle

Cedar Creek Lake is one of the largest lakes in Texas, and one of only a few that allow property owners to have docks. With more than 350 miles of shoreline, the lake has plenty of lakefront property. Most Gun Barrel City neighborhoods offer lakefront homes, ranging from tiny cabins to million dollar estates.

Theres plenty of room on Cedar Creek Lake for fishing, sailing, water skiing, Personal Water Craft, or cruising on a party barge.

On July 2, the city hosts JulyFest, a festival featuring a line up of popular bands and a fireworks display in the city park. Fireworks can be viewed from anywhere on the lake, as hundreds of private docks become launch pads for impressive fireworks displays.

The July 4th celebrations around Cedar Creek Lake also include an over water Air Show that features vintage and high tech military aircraft that thrill hundreds of boaters who gather on the water to watch the aeronautic acrobatics.

Permanent Visitors

In 2009, Gun Barrel City was awarded the Go Texan Certified Retirement Community designation from the state of Texas, a distinction that has attracted retirees from around the nation who want an affordable lakefront retirement in a moderate climate near excellent medical care.

There really is something for everyone in Gun Barrel City. The lake is a huge draw, and real estate on the lake is affordable. Retirees often start out as weekenders. Before they know it, they move here full time, says Larry Spiegel, a Dallas advertising executive who himself started visiting the lake on weekends before moving to Gun Barrel City full time in 2005.

The close proximity to Dallas means Gun Barrel City is commuting distance, and the area also is popular for telecommuters and professionals who work from home.

If you can live anywhere in the world and do your work, this is a great place to be, Spiegel says.

Fishing and water sports are top draws to Gun Barrel City, which is the commercial center of Cedar Creek Lake, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in Texas. During the summer months, Gun Barrel City enjoys a resort-like atmosphere with thousands of visitors, tourists, and weekend or summer residents increasing the population in the community. New York, NY (PRWEB) January 11, 2011

TagMan, the Tag Management System with real-time Attribution for enterprise e-commerce, today announced it has closed $ 2.25 million in Series A funding led by Greycroft Partners. Other investors in this round include iNovia Capital and Angels.

TagMan, the smart container, that sits on more than 100 e-commerce sites, including Subaru, Virgin Atlantic and Air New Zealand, previously raised $ 2.1 million in Angel funding, the most recent in February 2010 led by Cambridge Angels and the London Business School E100.

TagMan is used to manage online marketing tags/pixels (the pieces of code used by the digital advertising industry to track the performance of online campaigns) - and the data they provide - much more effectively, independently and with more control over privacy. It is used by e-commerce businesses to connect or switch between online marketing technology providers such as data systems, retargeting networks and web analytics providers more freely, and track the entire multi-touch attribution path to conversion of online customers in one system, in real time.

"TagMan was the first Tag Management System and has established itself as the market leader and trend-setter in both the US and Europe," says TagMan founder and CEO Paul Cook. "We will put the new funding to immediate use in releasing version 3 of our technology, building out our infrastructure to support the continuing flow of new, enterprise e-commerce clients and to develop the technology so that we can continue to break new ground on behalf of those businesses."

"Tagman has been very successful in helping e-commerce companies and marketers improve the performance of their online marketing, and this has ancillary benefits for consumers and innovative vendors in the ad tech market," says Ian Sigalow, partner at Greycroft Partners, who has previously invested in Buddy Media and Collective. "We are very excited about the potential for TagMan's agnostic and universal solution to the problems presented by tags, pixels, and attribution.

Following the new investment, TagMan has expanded its Board of Directors with three new non-executive appointments: Seth Brody, representing Greycroft, an experienced digital media executive was previously a Group Vice President/GM of online travel agent Orbitz Worldwide; Shaun Gregory, new media director at O2 who also becomes Chairman; and John Taysom, representing Cambridge Angels, a director, founder or investor in several online companies, including Advertising.com. The remaining Board will continue to be comprised of CEO Paul Cook and TagMan General Manager Jon Baron.

Greycroft has raised over $ 200 million and invests between $ 500,000 and $ 5 million at inception, and will increase on a staged basis to double that amount over time. Their portfolio companies benefit from active, hands-on assistance in all phases of expansion, including marketing, finance, and management development.

With offices in New York and Los Angeles, the company leverages an extensive network of media and technology industry connections to help investees gain visibility, build strategic relationships, and successfully bring their products to market. A list of its portfolio companies can be found here: Portfolio | Greycroft Partners LLC

iNovia Capital (http://inoviacapital.com/) provides venture capital to entrepreneurs who transform innovations into successful companies. The team comprises sector experts focused on mobile, consumer internet, internet communications, software and digital media. iNovia has $ 165 million under management across two seed and early stage IT and Life Sciences funds.

TagMan is the smart container tag for enterprise e-commerce. By acting as a single, universal tag and interface through which tracking tags and pixels can be deployed, online marketers can save time and money in the way they implement, manage and track campaigns. TagMan goes beyond last-click by capturing the complete path to conversion of online customers and providing real-time attribution reports that alleviate discrepancies between display, CPA and PPC online advertising channels.

TagMan was founded in November 2007 and has offices in New York and London. Clients include Virgin Atlantic, Subaru, Boden, Laura Ashley, Thomas Cook and Air New Zealand. Students Going Online to Save Money on Textbooks

Victoria, BC (PRWEB) August 18, 2005

America’s students will show their distain for highly priced textbooks by going online and purchasing discounted and used textbooks in record numbers during the current back-to-school season, according to Abebooks.com – the world’s largest online marketplace for books.

Abebooks.com expects to sell more academic books in August and September than any previous back-to-school season as increasing numbers of cash-strapped students turn to Internet booksellers. In January and February 2005, the website saw textbook sales increase by 400 percent on 12 months earlier, and that trend is set to continue.

List prices for new textbooks often exceed $ 100 and students studying medicine, engineering, the sciences and niche subjects are confronted with price-tags over $ 150. According to a report* from the Government Accountability Office released Aug. 16, textbook prices have increased at twice the rate of inflation in the past two decades and the average student spends almost $ 900 on textbooks and supplies.

Abebooks.com offers millions of new and used textbooks, and its average used textbook price is $ 27.

A common title such as Organic Chemistry by TW Graham Solomons and Craig Fryhle (July 2003 edition) has a list price of $ 141, yet used copies of the exact same edition are offered for $ 89 on Abebooks.com, which also has used older editions for $ 1.

Abebooks.com has a dedicated section called "Textbook Central" to help students find their books easily and quickly. It also includes a buy-back program where students can sell their books to recoup funds, as well as contests to win a Tablet PC, gift certificates for posters, CDs and iPods.

“Previously students had no choice but to purchase their textbooks at list prices from their own campus stores or large local bookstores,” said Sue Connors, Abebooks director of bookseller community. “In the last 18 months, the Internet has dramatically changed that situation and now price-conscious students can choose between new and used editions at cheaper prices by simply spending a few minutes online.”

About Abebooks.com:

Abebooks.com is the world’s largest online marketplace for books, with over 70 million new, used, rare, and out-of-print titles listed for sale by more than 13,000 independent booksellers from around the world. Abebooks has millions of registered customers who collectively purchase more than 25,000 books a day from its five global websites (Abebooks.com, Abebooks.co.uk, Abebooks.de, Abebooks.fr and Iberlibro.com). A true internet success story, Abebooks.com has been selling books online since 1996, and is a private company based in Victoria, B.C., Canada, with offices in Germany and Spain.

Difusi Introduces Medius and Maxim, a New Series of High-End MacBook and MacBook Pro Leather Carrying Cases

Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) September 12, 2006

Difusi Corporation, known for its iPod and Mac accessories, introduces the new medius and maxim cases for 13.3, 15 & 17 Inch notebooks designed to accommodate the new MacBook and MacBook Pro models from Apple Computer. The cases arrive in a choice of exteriors that include top-grain leather and Jacquard-nylon or full body top-grain leather construction.

Difusi continues its tradition of offering incredibly functional solutions for the Mac platform, said Mike Wright, the president and CEO of difusi. The rollout of these new products mark a milestone in our design capabilities, thus allowing difusi products to compete with far more expensive cases but to also share the stage with some of the larger brands.

We designed these exceptional cases through the integration of both form and function as well as integrated several cutting edge features that we develop to help differentiate our offerings from other vendors in an increasingly crowded market segment.

The new medius and maxim cases are outfitted with several features we believe will appeal to the consumer looking for an affordable and feature rich notebook case. Among these features are optional add-ons that include an interior illumination device known as Bright*, Power**, and Travel-Safe Technologies.

The breakthrough with the introduction of the medius and maxim cases are in their price points. These difusi cases incorporate features such as zone-based organization and extra interior adjustable padding to give these cases a 5 foot drop test rating that are usually only available in very expensive high-end case lines.

While compact, these cases look incredibly cutting edge. The shear amount of storage and accessibility is absolutely second to none.

Features

The cases are jam-packed with features, each come with padded leather on all handles and carrying straps and exterior body of the carrying cases. Hardware includes rugged zippers with padded leather pulls, as well as Jacquard nylon interiors that have been chosen because of its ability to hold up to everyday use. The cases are built using (9) Nine panel construction and each come with six main compartments for carrying cables, accessories, documents, CDs, DVD movies, digital cameras, MP3 players and more.

The cases were designed with Apples look and feel in mind, from high grade soft black leather to an interior sporting reflective light-grey nylon. Banding that holds the bright fixture to provide lighting for items in the case or elsewhere.

Interior Illumination (Bright)

"When is a light, not just a light? When difusi breaks all convention to offer one of the most hi-tech lighting solutions in the industry. We call our core lighting technology 'Bright'," Wright says. Bright goes beyond standard light design to incorporate power maximizing circuit design and material selection of components that last indefinitely. Convention tells us that lights should be designed with the body comprising of a power source, with a grouping of lights usually hanging at either end.

We threw all convention out the window and embarked on designing a new Illuminating Fixture from end-to-end, said Wright. We accomplished this by asking ourselves, how do we maximize the light output, minimize the power consumption, what materials are going to provide the most stability, and most importantly, make it sleek and easy to use.

Bright is a very high-quality illumination device made from highly polished, milled Aircraft Aluminum and is fitted with (8) eight super bright white LED's on a PCB design that incorporates LP output. Simply stated that is the brightest possible output of light while consuming less than 8% of traditional LED based lighting technologies. Bright is available directly through the difusi website for $ 32.95.

This copyrighted circuitry prevents drainage of battery power, thus enabling the light to draw from a 21/23 12 volt battery, only when switched on. Shelf-life of the installed battery is estimated at 36 months. Replacement batteries are found wherever you purchase door opening batteries. (Approximately $ 1.12 USD)

Difusi also announces today a redesign to its award winning nanoValet iPod nano leather case series and the inclusion of ClearGuard film to protect the LCD Screen, Click Wheel, and rear body panel of all iPod nano MP3 Players from Apple Computer. Clearguard is now provided as a free add-on in all nanoValet packages.

Lifetime Warranty

The medius and maxim cases come with a limited Lifetime Warranty. We believe in the quality of our products, Wright says, and back our belief with a limited Lifetime Use Warranty. We would like our customers to be satisfied with our products through and through, so we have built our products to last through a lifetime of use.

Pricing and Availability

The medius case line starts out at $ 89.95 for the JacQuard Nylon and Leather Exterior, the full leather medius case will sell for $ 149.95. The maxim case line for 17" laptops starts at just $ 99.95 and the full leather maxim case has a suggested retail price of $ 159.95.

The medius and maxim cases will be available through select retailers, online distributors and from the difusi online store. In Canada, difusi products are now available through our Canadian partner http://www.mymacdealer.com

Visit difusi.com for additional details.

Idea Consulting Inc Announces First Summit Dedicated To Eurasian Social Media And Application Markets

(PRWEB) November 08, 2011

Idea Consulting Inc felt that it was time to host such an event in the US, as Russia, in particular, although still only boasting roughly 45 percent Internet penetration, has taken to social media like no other nation, with users spending on average 100 percent more time on the Internet than any other population, according to a recent ComScore report. Since Russifying, in 2010, Facebook saw its Russian community grow by over 430 percent after it completed localization translation, and Twitter accumulated nearly 2 million users within a month after its local introduction that same year. Homegrown brands, many financed significantly by traditional media outlets, are expanding rapidly and becoming avid customers of Western media products while locally developed technologies are increasing in attractiveness to Western companies looking constantly for new and cutting edge products to provide for their customers.

Finally, and perhaps most significantly, the region is only on the verge of experiencing the birth of Smartphone applications. In countries with 80 percent plus Smartphone penetration, however, and consumers with an inherent proclivity towards technology and social media, goods and services industries are likely to be revolutionized. As such, day one of the event, entitled Apps Without Borders, will be dedicated to the local iPhone and Android application markets, including seminars from industry leaders on GPS/GIS technology capability and location-based marketing, on-line payment systems, taxes and legalities, cellular technology development, creation of localized, dynamic editorial, cross-platform PR and marketing, and development of on-the-ground partner networks. IDEA expects the main beneficiaries of this lecture series to be emerging, branding on-line retail discounted outlets with media and application components seeking to become internationally recognized brands.

The two-day event is to take place May 18-19 at the Liberty Hotel in Boston, Massachusetts.

The evening of day one will feature an awards dinner honoring leaders and luminaries in the Eurasian social media and technology sectors, as well as local politicians and investors who have worked to modernize regional economies through innovation in technology.

Day 2 of the event will be split in two, with the majority of the day dedicated to Social Media, an industry which has become attractive enough so as Viacom decided to co-chair, with Price Waterhouse, and Russias Channel One, a sub-conference at this years MIPCOM conference, dedicated to the industry, which is both producing innovative and strongly branded platforms and producing an entirely new group of companies seeking to purchase innovative and cutting edge Western content for local, cross-platform, digital distribution.

Day two will conclude with a two hour showcase of the brightest and best IDEA hand-picked media-oriented technologies and social media operations seeking investment and expansion into the West.

The summit will conclude with an open reception, where IDEA hopes that deals will be initiated, gain momentum, or even be concluded, with the help of intermediary experts if needed, thus helping to grow the tech sector in the Eurasian markets in a more effortless and efficient manner, helping media and technology creators and innovators to keep up with the pace of tech development and allow for a more rapid modernization of the Eurasian tech markets that is at once beneficial to Western counterparts.

Matthew Goldstein, President of Idea Consulting Inc, who has overseen the entry and development of a significant portion of the Wests largest media conglomerates and tech operations, including Bloomberg, NAVTEQ, FOX, and Viacom into the region, said, We are really trying to fold into this event all that makes the Eurasian, and especially Russian technology markets exciting and attractive. We want to see newer, smaller, but strongly branded Western on-line goods and service providers which have been successful in making use of both applications be able to seamlessly expand into what will be their most successful markets, before they are too late to market. We want to see wheeling and dealing between cutting edge content providers seeking to access unsaturated and solvent markets. And, we want to give Western companies the chance to learn about and hopefully incorporate and invest in the hottest regional technologies and innovative social media platforms. For this reason, we are making sure that all relevant industry leaders, with decision making powers, are on location. This summit is meant to be both a learning experience and a trade fair. In short, we think its in everyones interest to knock down barriers of entry and see deals get done faster and more efficiently.

Although EuraMedia will be largely an invitation-based event, 200 tickets will be made available to the public, which will go on sale in January, 2012

Idea Consulting Inc will be releasing a list of speakers for the EURAMEDIA summit, as well as announcing surrounding events, and specific lectures, on its site http://www.Ideaconsultinginc.com/Euramedia throughout the next few months.

First Choice Emergency Room Announces 24 Hour Service at Its Location in The Woodlands

The Woodlands, TX (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

First Choice Emergency Room, Texas' largest network of freestanding, no-wait emergency rooms, has announced that its location in The Woodlands will be open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The new hours take effect on Friday, November 11, 2011.

This is the third First Choice ER location to move to 24 hour service, and the second facility in the Houston area to do so.

"We're excited to extend our hours," says Jason Worley, COO for First Choice Emergency Room. "The Woodlands has been a great location for us."

First Choice ER operates twelve free-standing emergency rooms in cities across Texas. While First Choice ER opened its first location over eight years ago, free-standing emergency rooms are still a relatively new concept in medical care.

These facilities can provide an equivalent level of care to that seen in most hospital emergency rooms, but without the overcrowding and long wait times. At the same time, they offer a higher level of care than neighborhood urgent care centers.

All First Choice Emergency Rooms feature advanced diagnostic equipment such as CT scanners and digital X-rays. All of First Choice Emergency Room's physicians are board certified in emergency medicine, and all of the company's nurses are trained in emergency care.

"Each of our locations also performs on-site laboratory tests," says Worley, "Which means we can do blood work and other lab tests right away."

With its new extended hours, residents of The Woodlands can get this care anytime, day or night.

The Woodlands emergency room is located at 10333 Kuykendahl, Suite B, The Woodlands, TX 77382. Contact the facility at (832) 381-1999 or view a YouTube facility tour.

Survey Reveals 38 Million Americans Claim Identity Theft In Their Lifetime

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) December 6, 2010

A November 2010 study revealed that one would find a victim of identity theft in 19% of American households. And 12.5%, or 38 million American consumers, claim to have been have been a victim of ID theft. The results are part of the 2010 U.S. Consumer Study on Identity Theft, commissioned by IdentityHawk and fielded by Survey Sampling International.*

While 38 million U.S. citizens claim they have been victimized in their lifetime, research from Javelin Strategy & Research shows that 11.1 million Americans say they were ID theft victims in 2009.

The IdentityHawk study also revealed that better educated and married/living with a partner/divorced/widowed persons were more likely to have been a victim of identity theft. Results are as follows:

Education level/victims of identity theft:

High school or less: 9% of respondents

Some college/college: 15% of respondents

Marital status/victims of identity theft

Single: 10% of respondents

Married/living with partner: 13% of respondents

Divorced/widowed: 16% of respondents

The Javelin Annual Identity Protection Services Scorecard also shows a steady increase in identity theft since 2007 when 8.1 million people were victimized. That figure rose to 9.9 million in 2008, according to according to the Javelin results released in a published report: http://www.pymnts.com

Findings:

Ever been a victim of identity theft (IdentityHawk):12.5% yes = 38 million

Victim in past year (2007): 8.1 million

Victim in past year (2008): 9.9 million

Victim in past year (2009): 11.1 million

According to Phil Sandler, Spokesman for IdentityHawk.com, We are seeing a steady recent increase in identity theft. It suggests that consumers need more preventative and predictive measures rather than just being able to take action after their identity has been breached. Further, we believe that the incident of identity theft is actually underreported.

An FTC report confirms Sandlers premise of under reported incidences. According to the FTC 2008 Consumer Sentinel Report, 65 percent of those who reported identity theft to the FTC did not report the crime to their local law enforcement agencies.

Cambrian House Sends Out Laptop to Receive Signatures from Technology Rock Stars - Starts with Guy Kawasaki

Calgary, AB (PRWEB) September 15, 2006

CALGARY, AB Sept 15, 2006 Cambrian House Inc., a Calgary-based software company with a unique crowdsourcing business model, announced today the launch of their new fundraising campaign Follow the White Laptop. The campaign kicked off by delivering a new white MacBook to Guy Kawasaki the former Apple evangelist, in hopes of him signing it and sending it off to another technology rock star.

The goal of the campaign is to get as many signatures from luminaries in the technology sector as possible and then auction it off on eBay early next year, says Michael Sikorsky, CEO of Cambrian House. This is a great cause that all our employees are passionate about, and I feel it is important as a company to sometimes step back from our everyday operations and focus some energy to giving back to those who are less fortunate.

All proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Youth for Technology Foundation, an international non-profit organization that seeks to bridge the digital canyon among disadvantaged communities in developing countries, starting with the continent of Africa.

The company is hoping the laptop gets passed onto a diverse range of technology entrepreneurs including people like Bill Gates (Microsoft), Kevin Rose (Digg.com), Steve Jobs (Apple), Ze Frank (zefrank.com), and Chris DeWolfe (MySpace). We are very lucky to have Guy Kawasaki kick off our campaign, and we look forward to seeing who he sends it off to, says Sikorsky.

Norwalk.org, New Website Launches for Norwalk, CT Residents and Businesses

Norwalk, CT (PRWEB) May 28, 2010

Domain Investment Services (DIS Inc) has just launched a website for Norwalk, CT residents and businesses. The website, Norwalk.org, offers the ability to add and view real estate listings, classified listings, car listings, events and more. Users are also able to interact in the forum, add photos and videos and view local and national news.

"The website basically offers everything that the residents of Norwalk (and surrounding areas) need to interact with each other," says Justin Godfrey, president of DIS Inc. "We've designed the site so that residents and businesses can exchange information with each other or amongst themselves. The site provides residents with the capability of listing their car and/or homes for sale and also offers the ability for local real estate agents or car dealers to list their inventory as well." The site, which was launched this morning, will be going through some small touch ups throughout the next week, though the site is completely functional.

"Our goal was to provide the residents of Norwalk with something that they currently do not have. We wanted the site to have the ability to provide targeted real estate, news, events, classifieds and even a forum on one site, instead of going to a search engine to find everything one by one, the residents can now go to Norwalk.org and get all their local information. Norwalk.org is also a great tool for local businesses. They can do anything from listing their business, paying for a "featured" listing (which currently runs $ 10 for 6 month), provide real estate listings and they also have the ability to provide local coupons and to interact with the residents in the forum," says Godfrey.

Advertising is also available to local businesses. Low Introductory fees have been set for banner ads which currently are $ 50 per month for a 300x250 banner ad on the home page and $ 100 for a 728x90 banner ad on either the top or bottom of the home page.

Patricia Bellomo, Author of Crime Thrillers, Has New And Unique Blog on Updated Website

Detroit, Michigan (PRWEB) May 31, 2011

Patricia Bellomo, author of the crime thrillers, Louie Morellis Daughter and Stella di Mare, has started blogging on her website. But dont expect politics or current events or even news relevant to writers. What Patricia Bellomo offers is a unique blog written in the voice of her main character, Louie Morelli. A new addition is a second blog being authored by a character from her recently released crime thriller, Louie Morellis Daughter.

With titles like My Son Hired a Hooker, Legal Trouble in Lake City, Louies Double Date and South Beach Pimp, the articles are two- to-five paragraph excerpts reflecting things happening in Louie Morellis life. The fact that Louie Morelli is a fictitious person is not always evident, and the blog reads like real-life. Occasionally, there might be references to one or both of Patricia Bellomos books, usually relating to a specific scene or place. More common, though, is the daily occurrences of a man who doesnt even exist.

Louie Morelli is an unusual character. Hes a savvy south Florida entrepreneur who Patricia Bellomo describes as looking like an Italian movie star. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louie Morelli is the son of a deceased crime-boss who conspiracy theorists credit with masterminding JFKs assassination. Although Louies days with the New Orleans underworld are supposedly a thing of the past, he has connections everywhere. And when things go wrong, he delivers justice his way.

In Patricia Bellomos books things always go wrong, and in her blog situations arise in which Louie resorts to gangster tactics. What makes the blog so unique is the strength of Louies character and voice. He seems an unlikely invention for a middle-aged female author.

When people learn Im a writer, they automatically assume romance, said Patricia Bellomo. And while there are certainly romantic elements to my novels, these are not romances. Louie Morelli is the quintessential bad boy. Hes very charming, and he gets a lot of women. People new to my books or blog are sometimes shocked to learn Louie is married. Robin Macblane on the Larry Whitler Show in Ocala, Florida, asked if it was difficult for meas a married womanto write about infidelity, and I had to say it was not. Infidelity is a part of who Louie is. Im not trying to glamorize or encourage itbut its part of a lifestyle, and I give readers a glimpse into this world.

How does Patricia Bellomo know so much about this lifestyle? Ive been a girlfriend and then a wife, she says. In Goodfellas there was a line about Saturday nights being for wives and Friday nights for girlfriends, and Id have to say this is true. Ill go even one step further and admit that Ive socialized with the girlfriends on one day and with the wives on the very next.

Patricia Bellomo likes to remind people that her blogs are pure entertainment. Plus, theyre free, she says, and a good way to acquaint yourself with Louies character.

The second blog Patricia Bellomo is now writing is written from the point of view of an older Detroit sports-book named Vito. This character, Vito, has a small role in Louie Morellis Daughter. A secondary player, Vito does Louie a favor. Again, he seems an unlikely voicefirst because of his age and gender, and secondly, because he seems awfully real. Vitos blog tends to deal more with gambling and the trials and tribulations of being a survivor from another era.

Theres a rumor Patricia Bellomos husband, Vince, is a former sports-book, but she dismisses this. Id say the keyword here is rumor. For the record, my husband is a retired auto-worker. Plus, my characters are never based on actual people. Its all fiction.

Logicalis to CIOs: Occupy the Cloud!

Farmington Hills, MI (PRWEB) November 01, 2011

The Occupy movement and the impact of cloud computing are both gaining significant traction worldwide, albeit for different reasons, says Logicalis, an international provider of integrated information and communications technology (ICT) solutions and services (http://www.us.logicalis.com). Politics aside, Logicalis says CIOs and CTOs are becoming so comfortable with the cloud that some important trends are emerging with respect to CIOs cloud usage.

The cloud has become an expectation moreso than a novelty in IT today, so its not surprising that discussions among top IT pros are taking a new turn, focusing on the type of cloud solution that can be of most benefit to a company, the best ways to deploy a cloud strategy and the kinds of value-added services that can be bundled with that cloud offering, says Vince DeLuca, COO, Logicalis.

Such discussions have led to a series of emerging trends that bear further scrutiny by the entire cloud community vendors and users alike. To help clients quickly identify important topics for discussion in the cloud, Logicalis has compiled a list of five trends that prove theres no reason to protest moving mission-critical data into the cloud any longer.

The Professional Case from iLuv Makes Creating Content on the iPad 2 a Breeze

Port Washington, NY (PRWEB) May 31, 2011

iLuv Creative Technology, the premier provider of the most comprehensive line of accessories for the mobile lifestyle, introduces the iCK826 Professional Case for iPad 2 with removable Bluetooth keyboard. This high quality leatherette case combines a number of innovative features designed specifically for professional users or anyone who prefers the tactile response offered by a traditional keyboard to a touchscreen keyboard interface. Like all iLuv products, the iCK826 Professional Case delivers a unique blend of style, functionality and value to the consumers for which it was designed.

The iCK826s most notable feature is the removable Bluetooth keyboard that adds a traditional keyboard experience to the power and portability of the iPad 2. iLuv designed the keyboard so that the keys react and respond to the users touch in the same tactile manner as a traditional computer keyboard, providing a typing experience that is familiar to the user and completely different than that of typing on the devices touchscreen display.

There is no doubt that the iPad products have changed the game in mobile computing, said Pia Chon, marketing director at iLuv. The iCK826 adds tremendous value to an already amazing device by making it just as easy to create documents and media as it is to consume them on an iPad. This will make the iPad a much more powerful and versatile device for many consumers, particularly those who prefer to type on a traditional physical keyboard.

The iCK826s keyboard includes a micro USB port for fast charging of the internal battery that will last up to 30 days on a single charge. Secured with four Velcro strips attractively and elegantly sewn into the leatherette case, the Bluetooth keyboard can be easily removed and will easily operate from across a table or at the foot of a bed in a hotel room.

While the keyboard is certainly the headline act, the iCK826 also offers some simple, yet thoughtful design elements that truly enhances the user experience and have become a hallmark of the iLuv brand. An excellent example is the retractable kick-stand, which ensures the most comfortable viewing angle when typing or consuming any kind of content on the iPad screen. It also includes a stylish leatherette closure with chrome accents that, when set in the open position, rotates out of the way of the screen. The inside of the case is lined with a micro suede inner lining to protect the back of the iPad 2 from scratches.

Designed specifically for the iPad 2, The Professional case features openings for the front and back cameras as well as a cutout for the iPad 2s speaker so not to inhibit sound while watching movies, listening to favorite song while working or playing a favorite game.

Pricing and Availability

The iCK826 is currently available at select iLuv retailers for $ 129.99.

Cash Mobs Attack Local Area Businesses With $20 Dollar Bills; Andrew Samtoy, Attorney At The Northeast Ohio Law Firm Of Dworken & Bernstein Co., L.P.A, leads the charge

Painesville, Ohio (PRWEB) November 21, 2011

The term "flash mob" started out meaning a group of people who gather in a public place to dance or sing. The mob morphed into something more disruptive and destructive via the social media. A Class Action attorney at Dworken & Bernstein decided it's time for a turn of phrase and a new positive direction.

Andrew Samtoy took the lead. Andrew, a member of Cleveland Bridge Builders, an organization which trains the region's future leaders wanted to help make an impact in the local economy. He along with fellow Bridge Builder, Marty Mordarski, coined the phrase "cash mob".

Cash mob plans to gather on specific days at 6:00 at a predetermined location and target a store in the area. It must be locally owned, have products for both men and women and have parking. The store must be civic minded. Armed with at least $ 20 each, the "mob" will make purchases at the assigned location in a show of support for their neighborhood businesses.

"Many local businesses are struggling and if we can help them out a little bit, maybe give them an infusion, why not?" says Samtoy. Afterwards, the mob will gather at a local restaurant or bar to continue the economic stimulus. "The idea will not solve the economic crisis in Cleveland in one night or one month. But why not socialize with like minded Clevelander's, support local businesses as well as a local eating establishment afterwards?

Wednesday, November 16th, the "mob" descended on Visible Voice Bookstore for their shopping spree then gathered at Bac Bistro & Lounge for refreshments.

You can find out more about Cash Mobs on Facebook or Twitter or log onto the groups blog cashmobs.wordpress.com. Word spread within the week and more than 1,000 people ended up on the Facebook invite and already over 50 people have confirmed they'll come. Local radio and television stations are intrigued and excited about this initiative and have invited Andrew to speak or appear on local programming. Check him out on WKYC Channel 3 http://www.wkyc.com/video/default.aspx?bctid=1279874669001&odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|featured

Andrew was Dean of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity, earning a regional award for Most Outstanding Student of the fraternity. He's now an outstanding attorney at Dworken & Bernstein Co. L.P.A.

In business for over 50 years, the Lake County law firm of Dworken & Bernstein Co.,L.P.A. is the largest law firm in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula Counties, Ohio with offices in Painesville as well as downtown Cleveland. Cornerstones of a Mobile Office: MacBooks Surge Ahead on Intel Processors and New 140 Watt-hour Portable Power Station from Battery Geek, Inc.

Portland, OR (PRWEB) September 27, 2006

Mobile computing finally realizes its full potential with the recent marriage between Apple Computer and the Intel Core Duo processor. As industry heavyweights forge a new partnership, the move ultimately positions the MacBook Pro as a cornerstone in todays mobile office. Built-in Bluetooth connectivity plus Apples AirPort Extreme let mobile professionals disconnect from their tethered existence, and external battery technology provides an additional 6+ hours of runtime between charges.

At the helm of this mobile office, Mac OS X effortlessly manages the new Intel Core Duo processor for robust performance that matches desktop power. Intensive tasks like digital media editing are split between two computation cores for maximum efficiency. With the MacBook Pro, mobile professionals can touch up images on the latest version of Aperture or review daily footage in Final Cut Studio on the fly.

Taking cues from the iPod, the MacBooks sleek design and innovative ergonomics make work feel more like play. The built-in iSight camera facilitates quick and easy podcasting and video conferencing. Multimedia presentations flow smoothly with the Apple Remote, while the MagSafe power adapter prevents stumbles in the event a cord gets in the way.

Portable Power Station Cuts Power Cord

Until now, the mobile office has struggled to go completely wireless. The predominance of Wi-Fi networks has severed network cables, however mediocre laptop batteries force mobile users to find an outlet and recharge every couple of hours.

The mobile electronics industry has largely ignored battery capacity in favor of smaller devices packed with more features. In contrast, a high tech start-up company from Oregons Silicon Forest has tackled and successfully developed the worlds first and only external battery for the MacBook family of computers.

The new Portable Power Station by Battery Geek, Inc. supplies an additional 6+ hours of mobile computing time for the MacBook Pro, and incidentally supports most Windows based laptops as well. With a massive 140 watt-hour capacity spawned from premium grade Li-ion cells, the Portable Power Station provides a reliable power source to support a demanding mobile office.

Sean M. Murray, USMC veteran and founder and CEO of Battery Geek, Inc. explains, The Portable Power Station legitimizes the concept of a true mobile office. It powers devices from 3 to 28 volts making it the most versatile external battery on the market today.

As mobile professionals rarely travel without a mobile phone, PDA or iPod, the Portable Power Station doubles as a battery backup for these handheld devices. Connect through the USB charge port, and the Portable Power Station recharges virtually any USB device. Its sophisticated electronic control system regulates output power, and integrated sensors monitor the battery to prevent overheating and failure.

Designed as a MacBook companion, the Portable Power Station is roughly half the size of the 13 MacBook and weighs less than 2 pounds. The shock resistant aluminum shell protects the battery from damage, and its compact profile slides conveniently inside a laptop case.

Melissa A. Bostick, co-founder and CFO adds, International travelers are especially excited by the Portable Power Stations flexibility. They are working through long flights, and watching multiple movies on their portable DVD players and iPods during layovers.

About Battery Geek Inc.

Battery Geek Inc. specializes in state-of-the-art external batteries designed to give electronic devices the longest possible run time while keeping them operating at their highest performance. In addition to presenting batteries and accessories for sale, Battery Geek is committed to providing knowledge and education regarding battery power.

The additional TLDs, especially .ME, elevates HEXONET's Backordering Service into a class of its own. Arguably, this new addition makes HEXONET's service the most comprehensive backordering service industrywide.

Since the .ME registry opened on July 16th, 2008, .ME domains have been extremely popular. Some of the most identifiable domain names in the domain industry are either being registered or purchased through auction, including domains like fits.me, trade.me, and date.me. According to Robert Birkner, Chief Startegy Officer of HEXONET, "The appeal of .ME is its ability to create personalized or call-to-action domain names ever so naturally. Also, as social media continues to grow and the Web becomes more personal, .ME domains will, undoubtedly, be more important and be more valuable."

Predrag Lesic, Chief Executive Officer of dotME Registry, was quoted as saying, "Though there are countless great .ME domains open for registration by anyone, we are excited to see technological innovations like .ME backordering making it possible for people to acquire .ME domains in non-traditional ways. Honestly, backordering is probably the best way to possibly obtain some of the most prized .ME domain names that have already been registered. "

Individuals, businesses, and organizations can sign up for free at HEXONET and immediately start backordering .ME domains. Backordering for other domain extensions, such as .DE, .INFO, .BIZ, .ORG, .ASIA, .IN and more are also available.

Traffic Geyser Supports Local Economies with the Introduction of Main Street Marketing Machines 2.0: Fusion

San Diego, CA (PRWEB) April 13, 2011

Traffic Geyser has developed and distributed turnkey Internet-marketing solutions for more than five years. Their new Web-based service, Main Street Marketing Machines: 2.0 Fusion, offers small businesses and entrepreneurs the ability to attract customers at a time when revenues have sunk nationwide.

Traffic Geysers release of Fusion, stems from the positive responses we got from the first Main Street Marketing Machines release in 2010, said Mike Koenigs, CEO and Co-founder of Traffic Geyser. Mom & Pop stores, dentists, engineers, plumbers- you name it- they all started reaching more customers during a horrible economy. That made us feel incredibly grateful, so we designed Fusion in a way that makes this growth even more accessible to Main Street businesses.

For many, its an opportunity hidden in plain sight.

The media does a great job of covering Wall Street, but there are 29.6 million small businesses in the U.S. that often get overlooked, added Koenigs. These are the people, products and services found in every neighborhood and town, and theyre asking for help with their online marketing.

Main Street Marketing Machines 2.0: Fusion, is the result of combining customer feedback, a year of testing and over one million dollars in R&D. When compared to its predecessor, Koenigs explains that Fusion offers additional tools, training, templates and sales materials, and that users have access to product-creation videos, client-acquisition articles and blueprints for marketing local companies online.

Koenigs says his personal goal is to create one million new entrepreneurs before he dies.

Fusion was designed so that people can build a business on helping others build their own businesses. It not only distributes online content, it spreads goodwill by allowing users to more easily provide value to the companies and organizations found in their local communities.

Orlando, FL (PRWEB) June 13, 2007

PayPerPost, the leading marketplace for advertisers to reach bloggers and other consumer content creators, today announced it has completed a $ 7 million second round investment led by Draper Fisher Jurvetson, an investor in the companies Series A and one of the world's leading high-technology venture capital firms.

The financing brings the total amount of capital raised by PayPerPost to over $ 10 million, giving the company considerable resources for further development as the industry's leading Consumer Generated Advertising marketplace. Additional participants in the round include insiders Inflexion Partners and Village Ventures as well as new investor DFJ Gotham. With this investment, DFJ Managing Director Josh Stein also joins PayPerPost's Board of Directors.

"PayPerPost created this exciting new advertising space and has established itself as the industry leader," said Ted Murphy, chief executive officer of PayPerPost. "Although we've only used a portion of our first round capital, this added support from investors unlocks significant growth potential. Our content creator and advertiser ROI metrics clearly demonstrate the upside for PayPerPost's model. We intend to use this capital to build the infrastructure, visibility and professional expertise necessary to reach and retain a greater network of advertisers and content creators than ever before."

Since its founding in June of 2006, PayPerPost has signed more than 6,500 advertisers to its groundbreaking service, which has enabled Consumer Content Creators to be compensated for their efforts discussing specific companies, products or services via blogs, videos or other media. The content creators are required to disclose relationships with advertisers on their blog, providing transparency for the end reader. Over 125,000 Internet postings, most in the form of blogs, have already earned money for their creators through PayPerPost's innovative marketplace. PayPerPost recently released PayPerPost Direct, a disruptive new service that allows advertisers to contract and negotiate directly with individual bloggers they identify through a safe, managed system.

"PayPerPost has laid a strong foundation for the future," noted Tim Draper, founder and managing director of Draper Fisher Jurvetson. "It continues to attract a critical mass of participants from both the advertising and blogging communities. Analogous to Overture's sponsored search model, we believe PayPerPost's business model holds disruptive potential and will enable the company to thrive in the evolving paid-content arena."
